A 10th-century inspired Viking langseax in Jelling style, designed by Keith Wescovich, combining historical form with refined Norse artistic detailing.

The Jelling style is one of the most refined and distinctive art movements of the Viking Age - characterised by ribbon-like S-shaped animals depicted in profile, with beaded bodies and distinctive neck tendrils. Named after royal burial mounds at Jelling, Denmark, the style flourished from approximately 925 to 975 CE under the patronage of King Gorm the Old and his son Harald Bluetooth. This langseax carries that artistic tradition into one of the most formidable blade forms of the period.

The langseax represents the most advanced evolution of the seax tradition, transitioning from a utility knife into a formidable single-edged weapon during the Viking Age. This example draws inspiration from the Jelling period of the 10th century, known for its distinctive Norse artistic style and refined craftsmanship.

Designed for Deepeeka by Keith Wescovich, this piece combines historically grounded proportions with enhanced visual detailing. The long, single-edged blade features a thick spine and a fuller running along its length, contributing to both strength and balance.

The hilt incorporates a guard and pommel construction, reflecting the weapon's role as a dedicated sidearm rather than a simple utility blade. The grip, crafted from polished bone and etched with Norse-inspired patterns, adds both authenticity and visual richness.

The scabbard is equally distinctive, constructed from high-quality leather and finished with brass fittings, decorative edging, and suspension rings. The design reflects Norse artistic traditions while remaining functional for wear and display.

This langseax stands as a refined interpretation of Viking-age weaponry-ideal for collectors, reenactors, and enthusiasts seeking a piece that blends historical inspiration with elevated craftsmanship.
