Full description
A Borre-style Viking knife. The Borre style flourished from about 850 to 975 CE and is known for ring-chain patterns, double-strand interlacing and gripping beasts, found wherever Vikings settled or traded.
The seax is sized as an everyday utility knife, with a thick spine and stout width. It has a hand-forged high-carbon steel blade and a polished bone hilt etched with Norse designs on both sides, with a brass bolster, pommel cap and hanging ring for a lanyard. The vegetable-tanned leather sheath is hand-tooled with Norse designs, dyed umber, and fitted with brass rivets, a brass plate and two rings shaped like entwined serpents.
Class: Display and re-enactment. The edge is unsharpened.
