Huginn and Muninn Viking Shield – 32 Inch, Odin's Ravens

A hand-painted Viking round shield showing Odin's ravens, Huginn and Muninn, in black and white on a red face, ringed with Norse knotwork and a triquetra below the boss. The names mean "thought" and "memory"; the ravens fly the world each day and bring Odin news. Ravens also had a Celtic link with war and with the Morrigan.

The plywood face has a tightly stitched rawhide rim and an antiqued steel boss. On the back, three riveted wooden bars reinforce the shield, and the central bar, wrapped in leather, is the grip. It suits living history, wall or stand display, Norse-themed decor, markets and costume.
