This sword shows the transition between the classic Viking sword and the early medieval arming sword that followed it.

The guard is simple but effective, and the once-wide Viking pommel has become an elongated brazil-nut form, a shape that would dominate European swords for the next two centuries. The blade, meanwhile, keeps the wide, spatulate-tip profile of earlier Viking swords.
