The Late Viking Transitional Pattern Sword clearly shows the transition between the classic Viking sword form and the early Medieval arming sword.
This sword clearly shows the transition between the characteristic Viking sword form and the early Medieval arming sword that succeeded it. The guard is simple but effective, and the once-wide Viking pommel has here transformed into an elongated brazil-nut form — a shape that would come to dominate European swords for the next two centuries — while the blade retains the wide, spatulate-tip profile more reminiscent of earlier Viking swords, capturing a sword design caught between two eras.
Deepeeka offers this transitional piece as part of our late Viking Age range, bridging two eras of European swordsmithing.
A valuable piece for collectors interested in the Viking-to-Medieval transition, and suited to living history groups portraying this period.
