Norwegian Viking Sword – National Museum of Denmark Pattern, 10th Century

This sword is based on an original held in the National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen, a design closely associated with Norway at the height of the Viking Age.

The wide blade is suited to chopping yet tapers to a point capable of a decisive thrust, the dual-purpose profile of the Viking Age's most capable swords. A fuller along the blade saves weight, letting smiths draw out a longer, lighter blade without losing the strength needed in a shield-wall clash.

The hilt keeps a restrained, functional silhouette: a short crossguard beneath a distinctive half-wheel pommel, a form that recurs in Scandinavian finds of the 9th and 10th centuries.

Deepeeka's artisans recreated the original's proportions, guard and half-wheel pommel as part of its Viking heritage range. This model was designed in association with Christian Koepfer.
