Petersen Viking Type A Axe

Petersen's Type A is among the earliest axe forms in his 1919 typology, in use until about 840 AD. It has small symmetrical spurs at the eye, a slender contracting neck and a broad, symmetrical blade with no beard, a functional shape typical of the earlier Viking Age before the bearded and lobed forms developed.

Deepeeka leaves the head plain so the clean lines of the type speak for themselves. The C60 high-carbon steel head sits directly on the haft, secured with a heavy rivet and a steel wedge for a tight, lasting fit. Knotted, riveted bands of vegetable-tanned leather and a spiralled leather grip finish the haft.
