Primus Isle of Eigg Viking Sword – Bronze Hilt (Scotland, 9th–10th Century)

This sword is based on a notable Viking Age find from Kildonan on the Isle of Eigg, Scotland, where an elaborately decorated bronze hilt was recovered; the original blade did not survive. Dated to the 9th or early 10th century, the find is associated with collections including the National Museum of Scotland.

It is believed to come from a burial, pointing to both martial and symbolic importance. Swords of this calibre were prestige items reflecting wealth, influence and access to skilled craftsmen, and the intricate geometric and animal-inspired motifs on the hilt underline its elite status.
