Full description
This sword recreates a Petersen Type E-2 Viking sword from the L-13 Barrow (Forest Barrow Group), dating to the early-to-mid 10th century. The original was excavated in 1949 by D.A. Avdusin and represents a later, more developed phase of Viking sword design.
Type E swords are among the most widely distributed Viking types, and the E-2 variant is a more decorative evolution. Its hilt has carefully arranged perforations threaded with braided wire to create a looped lattice effect, a technique that reduces weight while keeping the hilt strong.
The blade continues the tradition of marked Viking swords: one face shows a stylised human or divine figure, the other paired crosses separated by a helix-like form, reflecting the blend of pagan and emerging Christian symbolism in the 10th century.
Developed in association with Keith Wescovich to balance archaeological accuracy and functional performance, it is part of Deepeeka's premium Primus range. Suited to serious collectors and students of Petersen typology.
