Full description
This Primus-grade reproduction follows a Petersen Type D sword linked to the C-2 Barrow burial, a group grave on the eastern trade routes where Scandinavian and Rus cultures met. The original was found bent and laid beneath the remains of a funeral pyre, a ritual treatment seen in Viking Age burials. Petersen dated Type D swords to the 9th and early 10th centuries, and later scholarship, including the work of F.A. Androshchuk, extends their use into the first half of the 10th century.
The original blade carries symbolic marks: an O-shaped motif on one face and a cross-like mark on the other. The hilt is fitted with a cast brass pommel nut and riveted construction. It is a good piece for collectors interested in the Viking-Rus connection along the eastern routes.
Class: Light Combat. The edge is unsharpened.
