Full description
This is a replica of a late 9th to 10th century Viking Age sword. The original was found in 1887 during land-clearing at Vestre Berg in Løiten parish (now Løten), Akershus county, Norway, as part of a large grave assemblage. Like many swords chosen for burial, it had been deliberately bent out of use. The original is held by the Kulturhistorisk Museum (formerly Universitetets Oldsaksamling) in Oslo.
The replica reproduces the hilt details of the find: a boat-shaped crossguard, a five-lobed pommel and knot-like ornamentation. It will suit collectors interested in Viking Age burial customs and Norwegian-themed displays.
Class: Display and re-enactment. The edge is unsharpened.
