Full description
The seax evolved through several forms in the early medieval period, from compact utility knives to substantial single-edged companion blades. This piece is a transitional form between the shorter scramasax and the larger long seax, or langseax.
It belongs to the design phase when Norse and Anglo-Saxon smiths began adding a guard and pommel to what had been simple, hiltless utility knives, improving control and hand protection while keeping the seax's versatility.
Developed by Deepeeka with historical designer Keith Wescovich, it pairs historical inspiration with practical considerations for reenactment. This variant has a polished bone grip, reflecting the widespread early medieval use of bone as a durable, decorative handle material.
